This is one of a series of poems resulting from a collaboration between Sibel Gul,  a talented photographer based in Rochester, and Derek Sellen, writer. The images all relate to the Medway area. The poems are based on the haiku form without always strictly adhering to the form.

medway swan

Light fuses river

and sky. A single swan marks

surface and substance.

Eye, beak, quill, belly,

this weighty bird is weightless,

balanced on nothing.

Its smudged reflection

hooks it from the abstract dawn,

moors it to itself.
